Deacon Bill needs a home!

Our 3 year old Manx-Siamese cross Bill (Deacon Bill) needs a good home!

Bill has recently been diagnosed with FeLV (feline leukaemia virus). He does not currently show any signs of the disease being active, but due to the infectious nature of FeLV to other cats he needs to live in a closed environment where he does not go outside, or to a home with other FeLV cats.

Bill is calm, adaptable and sweet. He can be shy around new people and new environments, but once he warms up to you he is a steady buddy. He was semi-abandoned by his first owner (the guy's friends moved into the house he had lived in, but they didn't know much about cats and mostly left Bill to fend for himself). He has been coming to our house to visit our cats for the past couple of years and has been living with us since May.

We love him very much and would love to keep him, but because our 20 month old Amy is especially at risk of catching this latent virus, we think it's best to find him a new place to live. We would love to place him with someone we know so that we can come visit!

Bill doesn't like small children, but would probably be good with older, patient children. He loves to romp around and play with other cats. We haven't seen him interact with dogs but we imagine he would like them too. He often sleeps at my feet and he loves to have his enormous chin and chest rubbed. He has an adorable habit of charging from room to room when walking would do.

Bill had spraying tendencies when he first came to live with us (we believe he was neutered a bit later in life and so developed tomcat behaviour) but we consistently sprayed the Feliway pheromone spray around the house and that solved the problem.

Bill has recently been vaccinated for rabies, feline rhinotracieitis, panleukopenia and calicivirus and treated for fleas.

The reality of FeLV is that this virus may become active and he may get sick, however, he could also remain healthy for many years. Information about FeLV and treatments for FeLV disease can be found on these pages:

Do you have love, understanding, and a home to give to a sweet little boy cat? Do you have the resources to care for him if and when he gets sick? Or do you know someone who does? Please contact me right away.

We would appreciate a donation of $50 to $100 to cover our recent vet costs in exchange for this fantastic cat.

Please help us to find a new home for this little guy.

Sincerely,

Nikki Reimer and Jonathon WIlcke

My friend's mother, Kathleen Moors, an artist in Calgary, recently did a painting that will be auctioned off to support the Meow Foundation. She included some of my photos of cats in her painting, including Mr. Bill:
